Ophiusa is based in Santiago de Compostella in Galicia in the North West of the Iberian peninsula.
Members of the band have been learning music and playing for over 3 decades. Over this time their music grew from the traditional musical culture of Galicia, including the mostly forgotten and almost lost folklore of the wild upland districts.
Their music is still evolving and being distilled and, after a gap of a quarter-century, since they toured the UK & performed for Glasgow's European Capital of Culture Celebrations with "Tio Dave", they are back!

"Paos" is the first record of Ophiusa, in which you'll recognise the Galician essences; but you can also detect scents of swing, reggae and bluegrass, all of them popular music - folk music - people's music.
"Ophiusa is a mirror reflecting the culture of a people and a town, where hearty and nourishing life is delicately wrapped like a corncob."
The music takes those listening through a tale, a journey, a catharsis.
"When we run through and keep alive those memories which are most noteworthy and most beautiful, we also hold ourselves up to the light:
the sounds and smells of the place where we feel most at home,
- our first love who played on the swings while we planned how to get closer to her, - that feeling that overpowered us, spinning tops in autumn, -learning fully as children what "refreshment" meant, after coming back from school to tasty delights.
Our music is a tribute to all people and things that turned us into what we are now."
